Hazaron Khahishen A Short Story by Rahat Jabeen. I couldn’t sleep for a moment since yesterday night. It was not that I was suffering from insomnia. I was one of those who always had a deep sleep whenever they get a chance. Actually I am a poor man, so poor that I haven’t even tried to be better in dreams. The condition of house is not very good. In rainy season, the roof starting trickling and everything gets wet even after moving them to dry places. My kids who have always worn used clothes are quite contented and my better half has started looking old before time. I have not been able to have her kidneys operated due to lack of money. Often at midnights, the only thing I can ask her when she is crying with pain, “are you feeling too much pain”.
